Birthe Kulich Scholarship

The Birthe Kulich Scholarship is offered each year to one or more members in good standing of the BC Orff Chapter. The award may be used for Introduction to Orff or Orff Level I courses in British Columbia. Level II applicants may also be considered, but are encouraged to apply for the Gunild Keetman Scholarship offered by Carl Orff Canada.
Preference will be given to applicants who
- Are currently teaching in or who intend to teach in a Music assignment
- Have demonstrated an active interest in the Orff approach (such as attending workshops or other events)
- Demonstrate how they will benefit from the award and the course
- Have a strong musical background which may include a Bachelor of Music or other similar training
Applications should include detailed information about musical background and music courses taken and demonstrate how they will benefit from the award and the course. Financial need may be taken into consideration.
Successful applicants will be required to write an article describing their experience that will be published on the BC Orff Chapter website and may be published in the Orff Ostinato.

Scholarship amount will vary depending on the number of successful applicants.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Grant
Application Deadline: May 22, 2024
BC Orff recognizes the need for more diverse representation of its membership. The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion grant is an opportunity for a teacher from diverse and/or marginalized populations to attend the Introduction to Orff Course run by the BC Orff Chapter. Applicants should have a music background and identify as a person from one or more of the following groups: minority/ethnic, Indigenous Peoples, LGBTQ2SAI+, neurodiverse, or live with mental health or socioeconomic challenges. The applicant must be a member in good standing of the BC Orff Chapter.

Gunild Keetman Scholarship
Application Deadline: April 15, 2024
The Gunild Keetman Scholarships are awarded in the spring of each year and are available for all approved Orff Schulwerk courses offered in Canada, summer and winter.
Applicants must be members in good standing of Carl Orff Canada, who have successfully completed a Level I Orff course.

The Joe Berarducci Scholarship
Application Deadline: May 22, 2024
A scholarship of up to $500, in honour of Joe Berarducci, is awarded to one or more applicants, who are members in good standing of the BC Orff Chapter, with priority given in the following order:
• applicants training under the Carl Orff Canada Mentorship Program for Levels Course Instructors
• applicants who are enrolled in an accredited Level III Orff Course
• applicants who have already completed Orff Level III and who are enrolled in an accredited Post Level III Master Class
This scholarship will be paid upon completion of the class for which it is awarded.

The Carolyn McMillan Research Grant
Application deadline: June 15, 2024
Established in 1994, this $1000 grant is offered to encourage research relating to the application and study of Orff Schulwerk in Canada. Projects may be broad-based and may include such topics as:
• practical applications for the classroom
• the integration of the Orff approach in music therapy, private teaching, geriatrics, palliative care etc.
• pilot projects for the music education major or the practising teacher
• a descriptive and evaluative annotation of bibliographic resources on Orff philosophy and/or Orff materials
Applicants must be current members of Carl Orff Canada, Canadian citizens and Level III graduates.

The Deborah Kerr Scholarship
Application deadline: One month prior to Children’s Day
This scholarship is offered to student participants of Children’s Day. A limited number of scholarships are available for students that have financial need and are recommended by their teacher.
