Debra Giebelhaus‐Maloney is a Canadian Orff leader, clinician, teacher trainer, educator and a past president of Carl Orff Canada. She is a child advocate committed to excellence in music education.
Holder of a B FA, B Ed, and M Ed, Debra’s current consulting includes designing and developing music, drama, language, arts infused ELL programs, sensory arts for students with special needs and cross-curricular courses/programming for school boards, universities and music organizations internationally, including South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Debra adjudicates choral, drama and speech arts, provides professional development for teachers and delivers Artist in Residencyprograms for students from Preschool through Post-Secondary. Debra continues to develop and provide sensory arts special needs programming for preschoolers. Debra has joined the Performing Arts Team at Renert in Calgary as a Music Specialist where she delivers Orff Music and Choral programming for K – 12.
Two of Debra’s commissions include Listen to the Children,a compilation of English and Inuktitut children’s stories written with the children inNunavik, Quebecand a series of four early childhood children’s concerts for the California Orange County Pacific Symphonyand Youth Orchestra.
In 1990, Debra founded Orff at SING MOVE PLAY, a music education program for 3 – 9 year-olds that continues to be the inspiration for much of her storytelling and game development, some of which can be found in her Music and Language Circle Games.
